Opposition immured
On the day of the meeting two RPPK members found their apartments concreted

Yesterday Almaty branch of the opposition Republican People’s Party of Kazakhstan (RPPK) held an authorized meeting in Almaty city with about 200 people taking part in it.

The meeting organizers called on the government to answer the Party’s initiative and to hold national dialog that as RPPK believes will make it possible to solve the political problems in the Republic, and will probably result in the adoption of a new Constitution. Meanwhile in the morning on the day when the meeting was to be held two Party’s activists, namely Amirzhan Kosanov, Executive Committee Deputy Chair, and Nurbulat Masanov, political scientist, has found their apartments concreted and reinforced. Besides, nasty words were written on the walls of their apartment houses and in the yards. Seidakhmet Kuttykadam, Orleu (Progress) opposition movement leader, found the similar inscriptions meant for him too. Mr. Kosanov told journalists that the window of his apartment on the second floor had been intentionally broken with a stone. The Chair of RPPK Executive Committee emphasized in his interview to “Interfax-Kazakhstan” that this act against RPPK activists had been a regular provocation to intimidate people and prevent them from participation in the yesterday’s meeting. He said that RPPK was going to hold a Republican protest rally in the near future.
